21”L x 21”W x 9.5”H (diffusion cloud chamber) | wood, glass, aluminum, plexi, beta source port, beta particle source (156 keV Max 10 microcurie Carbon-14), rare earth magnet (1,000 gauss)
The diffusion cloud chamber reveals the most perplexing and perhaps cryptic example of matter from outside of our solar system on Earth. The thin spindle like tracks seen ionizing in the alcohol vapor within the chamber are cosmic ray particles and radionuclides that are ever-present remnants from the Big Bang. This effect assimilates what is unknown and invisible to humans and becomes both an instrument of empirical evidence and an enigmatic aesthetic of the unknown. |
